Ziggy

Ziggy is everyone's favorite dog.  Our volunteers frequently spar over who gets to take him too and from medical treatments or dogsit him for the day.  His shelter advocates were obsessed with him, his vets adore him and look forward to his visits, and we're pretty sure his foster family's friends come over just to see Ziggs.  He is a once in a lifetime dog.

Ziggy is living a very different life from your typical 2yo boy.  If you didn't know he was sick, well...you'd never know he was sick!  He is silly and playful, jumps into his human's lap for hugs every chance he gets, and loves to snuggle on the couch with his chubby cheek pressed against your face.  He instantly meshed with the dogs in his foster home, proving to be an amicable, easygoing companion for them.  Whether you're a dog or a person, even if you've never met Ziggy, he acts like you're good old friends who've known each other forever.  And of course, he's a perfectly behaved boy for vet visits, car rides, and all the baths and grooming.  

Ziggy is hospice due to an untreated illness called Chagas Disease.  He likely contracted this living in unsanitary conditions in a prior home before he was ultimatley picked up as a stray by our local shelter.  Ziggy is in a later stage of Chagas, and is dealing with heart faiulre, at this point.  He is on a number of medications to manage this, but his abdomen still fills up with fluid to the point of needing to be drained regularly.  BUT Ziggy is joyful, bright, and still so so eager to be here with us, giving and receiving love.  We know he'll tell us when he's ready to ride off into the stars, but for now, he very much wants to be alive and enjoying all the perks of being an appreciated part of a family.  We would love for him to know the joy of becoming part of a forever family because its truly what he deserves.  Meet him in person, and you will see it too!
