Miss Lemon was a street dog that we started to see when we moved to the San Antonio area in July 2021. We would spot her on our security cameras and wonder who that cute dog was. On occasion we would spot her lying underneath trucks in the summer and see her walking around but these sightings were sporadic. After not seeing Miss Lemon for almost a year we were beginning to think the worse, then one day in September we spotted Miss Lemon lying under a car. Her belly was swinging and we thought that she might be pregnant. At this point we already knew we needed to rescue her from the streets, but with the possibility of puppies it became more urgent. We took her into our home on September 18th 2023 and she has been with us ever since.
After a visit to the vet it was determined that she was not expecting puppies, but rather that she was full of trash. For that next week her poop contained aluminum foil, plastic, wood and even a long piece of rope.
Miss Lemon is a very sweet dog that is very intelligent: If there is food on the table, we have found her standing over our plates when we reenter a room; and in spite of using good dog gates, she knows how to unlatch the lock and push the door open. She is honestly the smartest dog we have ever known!
For much of her life she has been independent. Navigating the streets and using her wits to stay out of harm.
