When we met Mellow, his name was totally accurate. He was so sweet, so chill, and so yummy.
It turns out, though, that he actually just felt like total 💩 and couldn't breathe.
Mellow had one of the longest soft palates our surgeon has ever seen (and they are veritable bulldog experts, so see A LOT of bulldogs on the regular)!
He ALSO had a stage two laryngeal collapse (so common in dogs with bad palates that are left struggling to breathe for a long time).
So, little Mellow was basically suffocating...
NO WONDER he was so chill.
Fast-forward to the miracles of rescue: His vet cut back his soft palate, fixed his airway, and opened his nostrils. The difference in this boy was immediate!
Mellow is now, not so mellow.
He is playful and silly and has become a veritable potato-shaped parcore expert!
Mellow seems to be potty trained (minus a few marking episodes, which are TOTALLY TO BE EXPECTED), and he loves having a comfy, cosey crate to call his own when he needs to take a break from play.
Mellow needs an equally young and playful dog who will appreciate his typical bulldog play style and is most likely a no for living with kitties (he is VERY interested in chasing 🐿🐿🐿 ). Any kids in his furever family need to be big enough to stay on their feet when Mellow says HI, so he'll need his kids to be 6+ at minimum.
Mellow is never going to be your hiking buddy, but he is going to LOVE meeting all his new friends and admirers in any air-conditioned setting!!
