We adopted Louis at approximately six months old. We were told that he was not housebroken and that we would need to take care of that. That wasn’t a problem, so we drove up about six hours to get him and fell in love instantly. We started working with him on kennel, training, treats, and lots of love and positive reinforcement. Four months have passed, and he is still peeing in his bed at night and sometimes pooping. He didn’t seem to care when he was using the restroom. We now know that the organization we adopted him from is less than reputable. They offered us a refund in the beginning, but I didn’t want to give up on him and I didn’t want him around to another family without them disclosing his challenges
We took him to our wonderful vet, she did a full exam and some x-rays, and discovered that he had some problems, including lack of muscle tone to help him poop. She also told us after observing him that she believed he has a neurological problem, preventing him to make the connection when he needs to go potty.
He still potties in his kennel, but I can clean that up pretty easily.
