*Gertie Butterstick*

Hi! My Name Is *Gertie Butterstick*

We're happy to tell you that *Gertie Butterstick* has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

Gertie Butterstick was rescued from a very scary shelter where she spent months living in a cinder block cell.  At first, after her rescue, she was wary, and spent a lot of time peeking through the blinds, mumbling to herself suspiciously about the comings and goings of all the weirdo neighbors...  But then one day, they brought her a batch of homemade sugar cookies, and she started to see that, even if they had bad haircuts and smelled like mung beans, people are pretty nice.

Now she LOVES going to the farmer's market with her foster family and meeting all the people and smelling all the mung beans and cupcakes and artisanal vinegar.  She's even friendly to other dogs passing by.

Her favorite place is snuggling up next to her humans.  She wants to be the little spoon at bedtime and will absolutely be a pillow hog.  She's also become friends with another pup in her home, and could do great living with another well matched mellow doggie friend.  However, her humans are her absolute favorite, and that's not likely to change!  Butterstick LOVES running around playing with kiddos, and she's careful not to be too rough.

Gertie is available for adoption to qualified adopters in the contiguous 48 states.  ABR would prefer approved applicants to come to TX to meet their match, with their family and dog(s), but we recognized this isn’t always possible.  In such cases, approved adopters should be willing to participate in video interviews with the entire family to meet their match virtually. Adopters must also provide a transportation plan for their new family member that will require approval from the ABR Board.   This needs to be paid for by the adopter, in addition to the dog’s adoption fee.  Adopters need to also be prepared arrange safe transport back to the Austin area, should adoption not work out.  Please be prepared to provide vet and personal references in your application for us to contact when considering your family.
