We know that sometimes life happens and people find themselves unable to properly care for their Bulldog. Our greatest fear is that someone will feel so desperate that they consider giving or selling their Bulldog to a stranger. Without the required references and home checks performed by rescue groups, dogs run the risk of being placed into unhealthy and abusive homes. We want to ensure your loved one gets the loving home they deserve.
Before you make the decision to surrender, give away, or sell your English Bulldog, we may be able to help you find solutions that will allow you to keep your dog as a member of the family. While we can’t guarantee miracles, we do have extensive experience dealing with a multitude of issues and can certainly offer suggestions and alternatives to giving up your dog.
We understand that sometimes despite your best efforts it is necessary to surrender your English Bulldog. In this case we feel the best solution is for Austin Bulldog Rescue to take the dog and find them a new, loving home.
Austin Bulldog Rescue will take in English Bulldogs being surrendered by their owners on a foster space available basis. Please understand that because we do not have unlimited resources, it's necessary for us to prioritize the dogs we take into rescue. Dogs coming from a shelter, where they are in danger of being euthanized are given first and top priority. Next are dogs in need of immediate health care that their owners cannot provide. We then consider owner surrenders. For an owner surrender, it may be necessary to wait a few days or even weeks before we can take your dog into rescue. Please be patient with us and we will do our best to work with you to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your pet.
The first step is to fill out the Owner Surrender Form, complete all of the questions on the form and email to firstname.lastname@example.org, together with some full body photos of your English Bulldog. Once we have received and reviewed the owner surrender form and photo, an ABR representative will contact you to discuss the surrender of your English Bulldog.
At the time of surrender please try and bring along anything that belongs to the dog, such as a collar, leash, crate, bowl, bedding, and favorite toy. You may be asked to complete a surrender questionnaire, which will provide us with basic information on your dog. This will help ease the dog’s transition into foster care. Gather any medical records you have for the dog to give to ABR. Vaccination paperwork is very helpful because it will avoid unnecessary duplicate vaccinations if the dog is up to date.
Austin Bulldog Rescue knows that surrendering your dog is a very difficult decision, but sometimes, it is the only one to make. If you choose to surrender your dog, you’ll be asked to complete a surrender contract. Your signature on this contract represents a permanent decision on your part. This legally binding contract gives full ownership of the dog to Austin Bulldog Rescue. This allows us to provide veterinary care and down the road, legally adopt out the dog to a carefully pre-screened ‘forever’ home.
Please understand that we consider adoptions through our organization to be closed, meaning that we do not reveal the identities of either the surrendering or adopting parties. Your privacy, as well as the privacy of the adopter, will be protected.
